Does he like, hate, or like like me?

I'm 13 & so is he (I know 13 and still using like like) Here's a story: So we sit near each other in 2 classes in English he complained about having to sit near me(the day before)then the next we had to do something with writing and he turned around and asked me for a pencil. So me being nice (&loving him) gave him one, but as he turned around I faintly heard him say thanks best friend. Now we aren't best friends I've never even been to his house. So I was pretty confused, actually I still am. Any info I would be grateful for thanks. P.s he and I do have some things in common ( don't see how that could help but worth a shot) :)
