Whats up with these pregnancy tests?

I stopped taking my birth control at the end of April and so I'm not sure when my period is supposed to be I'm trying to conceive so I took a test and it was faintly positive. That was Friday they have all been faint since then. How often is the hcg level multiply and why are they all faint lines?
